Over the last few years we have seen advertising arrive on Facebook, Myspace and other social media sites. Why… well, because it clearly works.
Detractors of social media sites as a viable advertising platform say people won’t pay attention to the ads as they’re just there to hang out with friends. But the fact that Google has paid MySpace $900,000,000 dollars over the last three years to place ppc advertising on their pages suggests otherwise.
The thing about social media sites is that targeting customers is a reality.
For example, I can advertise to managing directors, who are men, between the ages of 35 and 45, within 10 miles of Peterborough and show a specific ad to just that segment – for your interest, that’s 40 people! Of course, quite why I would want to target that group is another matter.
But, my point is, with these social networks having such detailed information about their members, and having so many members, the opportunities to advertise on a person by person basis are incredible, and a new kind of advertising is springing up.
So if you know who your best customers are, I mean REALLY know who they are, this is the perfect medium for you to talk to more prospects just like them.
