I was lucky enough to get a Kindle for Christmas…well, not luck at all really as I bought it for myself, but nonetheless it’s something that I’m delighted I bought.
Unlike the iPad it doesn’t try to do too much. It doesn’t have a colour screen. It doesn’t even browse the web (very well) but it is a bloody good eBook.
It is slim, light and robust. It will fit easily in to a pocket if you have a coat on and is cheap enough (£110) that you don’t treat it with the reverence that you would an iPad (at £500+).
But the real revelation is the screen. When your kindle arrives there is a protective film on the screen which looks like it has an image printed on it, but it doesn’t! It is the screen itself. The screen has a clarity to it which you can only really better with paper – easy on the eye, detailed, smooth, on the surface (rather than behind glass) and best of all readable in bright sunlight.
I think that this will be the best £100 I’ve ever spent!
Adam, couldn’t agree more. It is just fantastic. One thing that I’m really enjoying is reading loads of free books that I wouldn’t have I’ve I had to find them at a book store. Jules Verne has several books beyond the famous ones that are worth reading.
It can’t be compared to the iPad, they are different beasts for different purposes.
