Now, when I decided to upload this post, I thought that it was actually going to be a post about ‘engage’ another Brian Solis presentation which is startling for both its simplicity and its power… but in the end it turned-out to be a post about something completely different!
I don’t know if you’ve yet discovered ‘Prezi’ This is the most startling piece of presentation software yet created. A friend of mine introduced me to this about a year ago, and I’ve been really impressed with it but have so far struggled to make sense of how I may be able to use it. Let me explain.
We all know that PowerPoint is rubbish don’t we? Cluncky, slow and generally bloated…Keynote is miles better, but the problem with Keynote is that when you arrive to give a presentation it may well be on a PC and Keynote won’t be much use when that happens. Also, and perhaps more importantly, Keynote is conceptually just a slicker PowerPoint. It offers better transitions and more flexibility but as a presentation tool it still requires you to present and think in a linear fashion.
Prezi on the other hand is an entirely different kettle of fish. It allows you to present in a totally free manner, changing direction and moving in and out as you feel the need. The problem is though, if you’ve been thinking about your presentation graphics in a linear way as I’ve been doing for 20 years, it’s very hard to throw all of that away and think about doing things afresh (kind of like social media). But this presentation may have just unlocked a whole new world for me!
